Bobby Murcer and Lou Piniella drove in seven runs between them to lead the Yankees to a 10-2 victory over the Tigers. Piniella batted in a run with a double in the first inning. Murcer plated a pair with a double and Piniella hit a sacrifice fly in the second.

Murcer batted in two more with a single in the eighth and Piniella followed with a single for the Yankees' final marker. Larry Gura gained his fourth straight victory.
