A two-run homer by Sal Bando sent the Athletics on their way to a 4-1 victory over the Rangers. Singles by Cesar Tovar and Mike Hargrove, around a sacrifice, accounted for the Rangers' run in the first inning. After Bill North singled to score Bando with the tying run in the second, Reggie Jackson walked and Bando hit his homer for the deciding blow in the third. The A's added an insurance marker in the seventh when Jackson singled, stole second and scored on a single by Claudell Washington. [The Sporting News]
