The smallest crowd ever (748) at Candlestick Park saw the Giants' Jim Barr dispose of the Braves, 4-2, in just one hour, 38 minutes on a seven-hitter, featuring homers by Bobby Bonds and Gary Thomasson. Bonds doubled home Thomasson, who had singled, in the first, but Dusty Baker tied the game with a solo homer in the second.

A double by Steve Ontiveros and single by Mike Phillips made it 2-1 Giants in the second. Bonds homered with the bases empty in the third and Thomasson duplicated that effort in the fifth.
