The Mets and Expos traded 3-2 decisions, New York's victory in the second game ending Montreal's eight-game winning streak. In the opener, winning pitcher Mike Torrez doubled home one run in the first inning and Ron Woods delivered a two-run single in the seventh. The Mets scored an unearned run in the fourth with the help of two Expo errors, with Jerry Koosman singling home the final New York tally in the sixth.

The Mets scored all of their runs in the second game in the fifth, Rusty Staub leading off that frame with a home run and Wayne Garrett singling home Ed Kranepool and Ron Hodges with two out. Tim Foli's sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Mike Jorgensen accounted for Montreal's runs in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
