. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Making the first start of his major league career, Vern Ruhle allowed only two hits in seven innings before giving way to John Hiller, who completed the Tigers' 3-1 victory over the Red Sox. Fred Lynn collected both hits off Ruhle and accounted for the Red Sox run with a homer in the second inning.

The Tigers picked up their initial tally off Luis Tiant in the first when Ron LeFlore walked, stole second and scored on the 2,997th hit of Al Kaline's career. After Lynn's tying homer, the Tigers decided the contest in the fourth with two runs on a walk to Bill Freehan, single by Reggie Sanders and triple by Jim Nettles. [The Sporting News]
