. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A homer by Ted Simmons with two men on base powered the Cardinals to a 5-2 victory over the Cubs. Rick Monday homered for the Cubs in the first inning, but the Cards matched that with a run in the third on doubles by Simmons and Bake McBride. Then in the fourth, Mike Tyson walked, Bob Forsch bunted safely and Lou Brock singled to load the bases.

Reggie Smith singled, scoring Tyson, but Forsch was thrown out at the plate. However, Simmons followed with his homer for the decisive margin. The Cubs added a run in the seventh on singles by Bill Madlock, Andre Thornton and Ron Dunn before Mike Garman came in to save the game. [The Sporting News]
