Jim Kaat won his sixth straight decision and boosted his record to 21-13 by pitching the White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Royals. Doug Bird, who came out of the bullpen to start for the first time in his two years with the Royals, was the loser of the duel when the White Sox broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning.
