After getting a batting lift from Tony Oliva, the Twins scored an unearned run in the sixth inning and defeated the Rangers, 3-2. Oliva set up the Twins' first run with a single in the second inning and hit his second homer in as many games in the fourth. With two out in the sixth, Eric Soderholm singled, stole second, moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Jim Sundberg and scored when Jim Bibby threw the ball away after fielding a grounder by Steve Braun.

The Rangers were handed two runs on passes with the bases loaded in their half of the sixth. However, when the Rangers filled the sacks again in the seventh, Tom Burgmeier relieved and struck out Tom Grieve on three pitches to save the game. [The Sporting News]
