Hal McRae slapped a single up the middle in the 10th inning to score Fred Patek and give the Royals a 2-1 victory over the Twins. Patek had opened the inning by beating out an infield single. An attempted sacrifice failed, but the runner reached third on John Mayberry's single and the game-winning hit followed. Both teams scored in the first frame.
