Backed by four double plays, Nolan Ryan gained his third straight victory as the Angels defeated the Twins, 7-3. Ryan struck out only seven and walked nine before yielding the mound to Mickey Scott in the ninth inning. Joe Lahoud hit a double and homer to lead the Angels to a 2-0 lead before the Twins got their runs on a double by Glenn Borgmann in the sixth after Ryan hit Tony Oliva with a pitch and walked Eric Soderholm and Danny Thompson to load the bases.

The Angels came back immediately with two runs in the seventh. Orlando Ramirez singled and, after an infield out by Morris Nettles, scored from second on a single by Mickey Rivers, who also raced home when Bobby Darwin let the ball get past him in right field. Bruce Bochte batted in two runs with a double in the ninth, stole third and scored on a throwing error by Borgmann. [The Sporting News]
