Turning in the fourth one-hitter of his major league career, Don Sutton pitched the Dodgers to a 3-1 victory over the Reds. Johnny Bench homered in the seventh inning for the only hit off the righthander.

The Dodgers jumped on Clay Kirby for two runs in the first on a triple by Davey Lopes and homer by Jim Wynn. After Bench broke up Sutton's bid for a no-hitter, the Dodgers posted another run in their half of the seventh when Joe Ferguson was hit by a pitch, Ron Cey doubled and Sutton laid down a squeeze bunt.
