A pinch-homer by Al Cowens provided a spark for the Royals, who came from behind to defeat the Athletics, 4-3. The A's had a circuit clout by Joe Rudi in the fourth inning when they scored all their runs to take a 3-1 lead. Mike Norris, pitching for the A's, allowed only one hit before the rookie was lifted in the eighth after Vada Pinson was safe on an error.

Paul Lindblad relieved and was greeted by Cowens' score-tying homer. Rollie Fingers then was the loser in the ninth when Hal McRae singled and raced home from first on a double by George Brett. [The Sporting News]
