Homers by Garry Maddox and Gary Matthews and stout pitching by John Montefusco carried the Giants to a 3-1 victory over the Dodgers before a near-capacity Glove Night crowd of 53,060. Maddox' belt came in the third inning after Steve Ontiveros walked and was all the Giants needed.

They got another in the next chukker when Matthews hit a towering blast into the center field stands. The Dodgers scored in the opening inning on Jim Wynn's single and Steve Garvey's two-out triple. Montefusco's route-going performance was his second straight. [The Sporting News]
