Loser Jim Crawford, a rookie just up from Iowa, wild-pitched home San Diego's final run in the fifth, but was a victim of earlier lack of support in the field by the Astros.

The Padres scored two unearned runs in the second after Roger Metzger booted Tito Fuentes' two-out grounder. Fuentes drove in the winners' third run in the fourth after Dave Winfield singled and moved to second on a passed ball. [The Sporting News]
