Willie McCovey hit his first homer of the season and Tito Fuentes drove in another run with a single as the Padres defeated the Astros, 2-1, behind the four-hit hurling of Dan Spillner. McCovey's homer led off the second inning. Dave Winfield walked as the next batter to face Tom Griffin and scored what proved to be the winning run on singles by Dick Sharon and Fuentes.
