Fergie Jenkins had his former Cub teammate Billy Williams to blame for missing a possible no-hitter when the Rangers' righthander defeated the Athletics, 2-1. Jenkins gave up only two hits, both by Williams, who homered in the second inning and singled in the seventh.

The Rangers started their scoring with an unearned run off Ken Holtzman in the first on a single by Willie Davis, a hit batsman and error by Bert Campaneris. After Williams tied the game with his homer, the Rangers put over the deciding run in the fourth on a double by Jim Fregosi and triple by Tom Grieve. [The Sporting News]
