The Tigers rallied for three runs in the ninth, two driven home by Gary Sutherland, who singled with the bases loaded and two out, to defeat the Orioles, 5-3. Detroit tied the score when Baltimore loser Mike Cuellar walked Aurelio Rodriguez with the bases loaded.

The Orioles scored all their runs in the second inning, the first tally coming on Don Baylor's homer. In the Tiger sixth, Willie Horton homered after Rodriguez doubled and scored on a fly ball and a groundout. [The Sporting News]
