Chris Speier doubled in the ninth inning, scoring Marc Hill from first base, to bring the Giants a 4-3 victory over the Reds. Von Joshua singled with the bases loaded in the fourth to account for the Giants' first two runs, but the Reds picked up a pair on a double by Tony Perez in the fifth and went ahead with a walk and triple by George Foster in the seventh.

With two out and the bases loaded in the Giants' half, Horace Speed was hit by a pitch to force in the tying tally. Then in the ninth, Chris Arnold singled and was forced by Hill before Speier rapped his double. [The Sporting News]
