Gaylord Perry struck out nine and moved into 14th place on the all-time list with a career total of 2,338 while pitching the Indians to an 8-1 victory over the Red Sox. Boog Powell backed Perry with a single and homer, driving in three runs, while George Hendrick, who had three hits, accounted for two RBIs. The Red Sox, who collected only five hits off Perry, produced their run in the fifth inning on a single by Doug Griffin, pass to Bernie Carbo and single by Dwight Evans. [The Sporting News]
