Sonny Siebert, who was credited with his third straight victory, drew a walk to start the Padres' uprising against Larry Dierker and scored on singles by Enzo Hernandez and Bobby Tolan.

Johnny Grubb followed with a double, driving in two runs. After an intentional pass to Willie McCovey, Dave Winfield doubled to produce the Padres' fourth tally.
