A loser of three previous decisions, Steve Carlton gained his first victory of the season when the Phillies defeated the Expos, 2-1. Carlton owed thanks to Dave Cash, who collected four hits, scored one run and drove in the other. In the first inning, Cash singled, took second when Mike Schmidt was hit by a pitch and crossed the plate on a single by Greg Luzinski.

Mike Anderson singled in the seventh, Carlton sacrificed and Cash singled to drive in what proved to be the winning run. Barry Foote homered for the Expos' counter in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
