. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Starting with five runs in the first inning, the Cubs posted a 7-4 victory over the Mets, who were stopped on their seven-game winning streak. The outburst at the expense of Jon Matlack began with a single by Jose Cardenal and homer by Bill Madlock. After two out, George Mitterwald and Rick Monday walked and Manny Trillo drove them home with a double. A wild pitch and single by Ray Burris then added the fifth run. [The Sporting News]
