The Pirates, who lost to the Cardinals, 3-0, in the previous night's game, swung the whitewash brush in turn and gained a 5-0 victory behind the five-hit pitching of Jerry Reuss, who was a winner for the first time this season. Loser Bob Gibson allowed only three hits in five innings, but they included homers by Richie Zisk and Willie Stargell, as well as an unearned run on an error by the Cards' pitcher and a double by Manny Sanguillen.
