Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's career record for runs batted in while collecting four of the Brewers' 17 hits in a 17-3 walloping of the Tigers. A single by Aaron in the third inning scored Sixto Lezcano and raised his RBI total to 2,210, one more than Ruth's mark. Aaron batted in another run with a double in the fifth. Robin Yount also had a big day at the plate with a homer and double, driving in four runs. Darrell Porter hit a homer and triple for three RBIs.

Willie Horton hit a two-run homer for the Tigers in the first inning and tied the score at 3-3 with a run-scoring single in the fifth before the Brewers exploded for five runs in their half. Don Money beat out an infield hit and scored on a double by Yount. Aaron's double and Porter's triple added two more runs. Another pair then scored on an error and triple by Pedro Garcia.
