Ken Forsch, who was used entirely as a reliever by the Astros last season, made his first start since 1973 and pitched seven innings to gain a 6-3 victory over the Padres. Bob Watson and Enos Cabell each had three hits in support of Forsch. A double by Cabell, single by Cesar Cedeno, an infield out and single by Bob Watson started the Astros' scoring in the first inning.

After Watson homered in the third, Doug Rader batted in two runs with a double in the fifth. Singles by Tommy Helms and Cabell, around a sacrifice, added the Astros' final tally in the sixth. All three of the Padres' runs scored on sacrifice flies. [The Sporting News]
