Connecting for the Braves' third homer of the game, Larvell Blanks hit for the circuit with two out in the ninth inning to beat the Reds, 6-5. The Braves took the lead in the second with a round-tripper by Earl Williams, double by Blanks and single by Ralph Garr, but the Reds went ahead, 3-2, before Williams singled in the sixth, Vic Correll walked and Cito Gaston came through with a homer as a pinch-hitter for Ron Reed.

In the Reds' half, Pete Rose walked, took third on a double by Dave Concepcion and continued home when Blanks bobbled the throw from the outfield. Joe Morgan then singled to score Concepcion with the tying run. [The Sporting News]
