After failing to hold a three-run lead in the ninth inning, Randy Moffitt was credited with a victory -- "but I don't deserve it" -- when the Giants came back to defeat the Astros, 5-4. The Giants took a 4-1 lead in the eighth when Ed Goodson knocked in two runs with a double and Steve Ontiveros added another tally with a single. Mike Caldwell, who started for the Giants, was removed in the ninth after giving up a single by Bob Watson.

Moffitt, in relief, passed Cliff Johnson and then served up a score-tying homer by Jose Cruz. In the Giants' half, Von Joshua walked, raced to third on a wild pickoff throw by Jim York and scored the winning run when Derrel Thomas singled for his fourth hit of the game. [The Sporting News]
