The Twins jumped into a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a bases-loaded single by Dan Ford and added a run in the fourth when Eric Soderholm doubled and Glenn Borgmann singled. After the Royals picked up their run in the fifth on singles by Vada Pinson and Fred Patek around a walk, the Twins wrapped up the scoring in their half with a pass to Steve Brye and singles by Bobby Darwin and Steve Braun.
