Home runs by rookies Pepe Mangual and Larry Parrish pushed the Expos past the Cubs, 3-2. Mangual hit for the circuit after Barry Foote walked in the third, while Parrish provided the winning run with a solo shot in the sixth to pin the first defeat on Ray Burris, who had won three.

Chicago scored its runs in the seventh with the aid of two wild pitches by winning pitcher Dennis Blair. Pete LaCock walked, Manny Trillo singled and both advanced on a wild pitch. LaCock scored on Adrian Garrett's groundout and Trillo scored on another wild pitch. [The Sporting News]
