After being shut out on two hits over the first six innings, the Athletics exploded for nine runs in the seventh, capping their outburst with a a grand-slam homer by Sal Bando, to defeat the Angels, 9-1. Bill Singer suddenly lost his stuff and was followed by Don Kirkwood, Mickey Scott and Chuck Dobson, who was on the mound for Bando's homer.

A walk to Billy Williams, stolen base by pinch-runner Matt Alexander and single by Gene Tenace produced the the A's first run to tie the score at 1-1. Pinch-singles by Charlie Sands and Jim Holt added the go-ahead marker. After a walk to Bert Campanerts, Claudell Washington hit a two-run single. Joe Rudi drew a pass and Angel Mangual singled for a fifth run before Bando's belt put the icing on the cake. [The Sporting News]
