A three-run homer by Sixto Lezcano and three-run double by George Scott enabled the Brewers to defeat the Tigers, 7-5. Lezcano hit his homer in the fourth inning and Bobby Mitchell drove in another run with a double as the Brewers took a 4-1 lead. The Tigers tied the score in their half. After Bill Champion gave up one run and was lifted, two others counted on a wild pitch by Ediardo Rodriguez and grounder by Tom Veryzer.

However, Rodriguez allowed only two hits in six innings of relief and was the winner when the Brewers broke away in the seventh. Darrell Porter started the stanza with a triple. Don Money walked with one out and stole second. Mickey Lolich passed Robin Yount intentionally to load the bases and then struck out Mitchell, but Scott came through with his double to clear the sacks.
