Nolan Ryan pitched a four-hitter for his second shutout and sixth victory of the season as the Angels defeated the Athletics, 5-0. Ryan struck out 10, marking the 70th time in his career that the ace righthander had fanned 10 or more batters in one game.

The Angels gave Ryan enough runs to win, with two in the fifth inning on singles by Bob Allietta, Jerry Remy, Morris Nettles and Mickey Rivers. Just to be sure, the Angels added three more runs in the seventh on a single by Allietta, pass to Nettles, triple by Rivers and single by Tommy Harper. [The Sporting News]
