Putting down a threat in the ninth inning, Tom House saved a victory for Ron Reed as the Braves defeated the Giants, 3-2. Chris Speier doubled to start the Giants' rally, Steve Ontiveros walked and Dave Rader singled to load the bases with one out. Glenn Adams delivered a pinch-single, driving in two runs and routing Reed. House struck out Von Joshua and got Derrel Thomas on a grounder to end the game.

The Braves scored their first run in the opening frame on singles by Ralph Garr and Marty Perez and a sacrifice fly by Dusty Baker. A double by Darrell Evans and single by Baker added a run in the fourth. Larvell Blanks tripled in the seventh and scored what proved to be the winning run when Biff Pocoroba grounded out.
