Ron Fairly hit his first homer in a Cardinal uniform and also singled, driving in a total of four runs, in a 6-4 victory over the Giants. The Cards, taking advantage of John D'Acquisto's wildness, scored three times after two were out in the first inning on a walk, hit batsman, wild pitch, Fairly's single and a double by Keith Hernandez.

A double by Mike Tyson and single by Lou Brock added a tally in the second before Ted Simmons walked and Fairly homered in the third. Gary Matthews batted in three runs for the Giants with a triple and homer. [The Sporting News]
