Nolan Ryan gave up seventh-inning singles by Bobby Bonds and Chris Chambliss but otherwise held the Yankees hitless while pitching the Angels to a 5-0 victory for his third shutout of the season. Doc Medich, who started for the Yankees, gave way in his duel with Ryan when the Angels scored with two out in the sixth inning on a walk to Bruce Bochte and singles by Joe Lahoud and Dave Chalk.

A triple by Tom Egan, single by Morris Nettles, a sacrifice and single by Bochte added two runs in the seventh. Billy Smith doubled off reliever Sparky Lyle with the bases loaded in the eighth for the final pair. [The Sporting News]
