Mike Schmidt, Larry Christenson and Larry Bowa all slammed two-run homers in the second inning and the Phillies went on to outslug the Braves, 12-8, for their fifth straight victory. Vic Correll hit a pair of two-run homers for the Braves, who knocked out Christenson with a five-run fourth.

The Phillies came right back with three in their half, taking advantage of reliever Mike Thompson's wildness. Jay Johnstone singled in one run, Garry Maddox brought in another with a sacrifice fly and Dick Allen brought in a third when he walked with the bases loaded. Dave Cash singled home another Phillie run in the fifth, Allen doubled home one more in the sixth and Bowa squeezed in the final tally in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
