Righthander Dennis Leonard notched his first major league victory in pitching the Royals to a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox. The decisive inning for the Royals was the third. Fran Healy, making his first start since sustaining a leg injury in the second game of the season, opened with a single and Fred Patek drew a walk.

Jim Wohlford forced Patek at second as Healy took third. Amos Otis singled home Healy and Wohlford scored when left fielder Bernie Carbo mishandled Otis' hit. Otis, who took second on the error, scored on Hal McRae's double. [The Sporting News]
