Rusty Staub and Dave Kingman belted home runs as the Mets romped to an easy 10-2 victory over the Astros. Four runs came home in the Mets' first turn at bat, Ed Kranepool driving in two with a double and Del Unser and Wayne Garrett each hitting a sacrifice fly off loser Larry Dierker. Staub's homer led off the third frame and Jerry Grote doubled home another later in the inning.

Kingman's blast came in the fifth and also scored Kranepool who had led off the inning with a single. Tom Seaver gave up five hits in the first inning and was relieved by Bob Apodaca in the eighth, but still managed to get his fifth triumph of the season. [The Sporting News]
