Billy Williams drove in three runs and Claudell Washington tripled home two others to carry the A's to a 6-1 triumph over the Yankees. Washington's blow came in the second inning. It followed walks to Sal Bando and Gene Tenace and erased a 1-0 Yankee lead. Williams had consecutive solo shots in the fourth and sixth and singled home another run in the eighth. It was the fifth straight victory for the A's and the Yanks' 10th loss in their last 12 games. [The Sporting News]
