Gary Nolan gave up a first-inning homer to Mike Jorgensen, then blanked the Expos the rest of the way as the Reds posted a 6-1 victory, handing Montreal starter Dave McNally his fifth straight defeat. Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead in the second on singles by George Foster and Nolan, a double by Doug Flynn and a groundout.

Pete Rose also hit a solo homer in the fifth and Foster connected in the sixth. The Reds added their final markers in the seventh, Nolan scoring on a wild pitch by reliever Steve Renko and Dave Concepcion singling home Rose. [The Sporting News]
