The Indians knocked out Wilbur Wood with a four-run third inning and survived a four-run White Sox rally against Gaylord Perry in the sixth to edge Chicago, 7-6. Wood gave up a single run in the second, but Deron Johnson hit his third homer of the season to tie the score in the bottom of the same inning.

George Hendrick doubled home Buddy Bell, then scored ahead of Boog Powell, who homered in the third. The Indians expanded their lead to 7-2 in the fifth when Hendrick homered with Bell on first. The Sox' sixth-inning rally against Perry included consecutive singles by Bucky Dent, Brian Downing, Pat Kelly, Jorge Orta and Carlos May, plus an error by Charlie Spikes. [The Sporting News]
