Jim Barr, pitching perfect ball through six innings, extended his personal streak of scoreless innings against the Cardinals to 24 as he and the Giants blanked St. Louis, 2-0. Lou Brock opened the seventh with a single, the first Cardinal hit, and also had a safety with two out in the ninth. Only three other St. Louis runners reached base. All were erased on double plays.

The Giants got one run off loser Lynn McGlothen in the fifth on Von Joshua's double, a wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Bobby Murcer. A triple by Willie Montanez and single by Chris Speier accounted for the second run in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
