Johnny Grubb put an end to a pitching duel between the Padres' Randy Jones, who allowed only one hit, and John Curtis, who was touched for six safeties, with a one-out, 10th-inning homer which gave San Diego a 1-0 victory over the Cardinals. The only St. Louis hit off Jones, who went the distance, was a seventh-inning single by Luis Melendez. Grubb's homer was his first of the season and his fourth hit of the game.
