The Angels punched out five consecutive singles for three runs in the fourth inning to beat the Red Sox, 6-3. The winning rally began with two out and the Bosox ahead, 3-2. Dave Chalk singled, moved to second on Tom Egan's single and scored on Morris Nettles' smash off pitcher Rick Wise's leg. Billy Smith singled home Egan and Jerry Remy singled in Nettles. The Red Sox had taken the lead in the third on two-out singles by Carl Yastrzemski and Jim Rice and Fred Lynn's homer. That overcame an early Angel lead manufactured on Remy's leadoff triple and Mickey Rivers' sacrifice fly in the first and Smith's triple and Remy's sacrifice fly in the third. The Angels added one in the ninth on Nettles' single, a sacrifice and Bruce Bochte's single. [The Sporting News] |
