Ron Cey's bases-loaded double sparked a four-run rally in the sixth inning as the Dodgers defeated the Cubs, 8-3. The home team had just two hits and was trailing, 1-0, going into the bottom of the sixth. A bunt single by Davey Lopes, infield single by Willie Crawford, Jim Wynn's sacrifice and an intentional walk to Steve Garvey filled the bases. Cey then delivered his double to produce two runs.

After Joe Ferguson was given an intentional walk to reload the sacks, Steve Yeager hit s sacrifice fly to score Garvey, and Rick Auerbach singled to bring in Cey and make the score 4-1. Starter Burt Hooton posted his second victory since coming to the Dodgers from the Cubs in a trade. He went 7 2/3 innings and struck out 11, including six straight strikeouts in the fifth and sixth innings. [The Sporting News]
