Bill Hands scattered five hits as the Rangers downed the Brewers, 6-0, taking over first place in the A.L. West. The only run Hands needed came in the opening frame as leadoff man Cesar Tovar reached first when second sacker Pedro Garcia bobbled an easy grounder. Lenny Randle forced Tovar and, after Willie Davis grounded out, scored on Jeff Burroughs' double to the center field wall.

The Rangers' other tallies came in the eighth on run-scoring singles by Davis and Mike Hargrove and Toby Harrah's two-run single. Their final tally scored in the ninth when JIm Sundberg singled, stole second and came home on Davis' double. The Brewers never got more than one hit in any inning. [The Sporting News]
