Home runs by Carl Yastrzemski, Bernie Carbo, Dwight Evans and Fred Lynn powered the Red Sox to a 6-1 victory over the Angels. Nolan Ryan gave up three circuit blows, as many as he had yielded in his previous nine starts. Carbo's blast came in the first frame and the Sox got three more tallies in the fifth on a walk to Tim Blackwell, Carbo's double, sacrifice fly by Rick Burleson and Yastrzemski's two-run drive into the visiting bullpen in right field.

Tommy Harper gave the Angels their lone score with a homer in the top of the sixth but Evans equalized that in the bottom of the inning with his fourth homer of the season. Lynn's homer came in the eighth off reliever Chuck Dobson. [The Sporting News]
