The Astros beat the Expos, 4-2, for their sixth consecutive victory. The visiting team scored early when Pepe Mangual drove Dave Roberts' second pitch of the game into the left field seats for a home run. But the Astros retaliated in the bottom half of the inning, the key blow being Roger Metzger's triple. It drove in a run and Metzger himself scored on Cesar Cedeno's sacrifice fly.

The Astros' other two tallies came in the fifth when Greg Gross tripled, Cedeno walked, Bob Watson drove in Gross and sent Cedeno to third with a single, and Enos Cabell hit a sacrifice fly.
