A two-run homer by Tony Perez and two-run single by Merv Rettenmund paced the Reds to a 5-2 verdict over the Phillies. Perez' smash followed a first-inning double by Johnny Bench. The Reds got their third run in the second inning on Cesar Geronimo's RBI double.

Rettenmund's key single came in the fourth and followed a single by Dave Concepcion and double by George Foster. The Phils' first run scored in the sixth when Greg Luzinski doubled home Dave Cash. Pinch-hitter Jay Johnstone singled home their other run in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
