Graig Nettles hit two homers and Bobby Bonds one as the Yankees downed the Rangers, 11-7. Nettles' first blast came in the second inning and gave the home team a lead it never relinquished. The runs which ultimately proved decisive came in the seventh on a two-run single by Chris Chambliss, an error by third baseman Roy Howell which permitted another run to score and an infield hit by Jim Mason which chased home the fourth run.

Catfish Hunter was the beneficiary of the Yankee scoring but needed relief help in the ninth when the Rangers scored five runs on five hits. Both benches emptied in the eighth inning when reliever Jim Merritt hit Bonds with a pitch but no fighting took place. [The Sporting News]
